Ben & Betsy’s Wedding: A Match Made in History Book Heaven

If I remember my history correctly, Benjamin Franklin and Betsy Ross were married in… um… hm.

No, Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross were never really married, but on July 3rd, at 8PM, Ben & Betsy will be exchanging vows in a public ceremony at Independence Hall. But why re-enact a piece of history that never really happened? Well, Ralph Archbold, Philadelphia’s nationally recognized Ben Franklin re-enactor, fell in love with Linda Wilde, who portrays Betsy Ross, and now they’re getting married. For reals.

The mayor will be on scene to officiate the ceremony, with Grammy Award winning Peter Nero and the Pops providing the wedding soundtrack. The couple will be dressed in their colonial garb, and will be exchanging rings engraved with a kite & key and stars & stripes, the symbols of their historical characters.

Want some more information on the event? Visit GoPhila for a complete photo gallery of the cute couple, and learn how you can make a donation to preserve the Betsy Ross House and Franklin Square.
