Bloomsday in Philadelphia: June 16th

Post by Alina Josan / Photo by G. Widman for GPTMC

Celebrate Bloomsday on June 16th by heading to the Rosenbach Museum and Library. The Rosenbach holds the original manuscript of James Joyce’s Ulysses in its collection which can be seen by appointment any time of the year. The renowned novel takes its reader trough the day of Leopold Bloom which the museum honors with a public recitation of the complete text. Relive that day on Delancey place as the block is closed to traffic from dawn to dusk.

The museum and its exhibits can be visited until 12 and you may sit and listen in to a favorite passage or wander away and back again. Call or check the museum website for an updated list of this year’s readers which regularly include Philadelphia luminaries from a variety of backgrounds. This year’s Bloomsday should have quite a lineup since it is also the 16th anniversary of the June 16th reading.
