Mixto: Delicious Sangria & More

Last weekend, my beau and I were wandering around the Midtown Village neighborhood looking for a friendly watering hole. Despite the fact that we love Mixto, we never seem to remember where it is (11th and Pine) or how fun it is. I was determined to get there, and after a few circles we happened upon it and decided that, yes, a pitcher of red sangria would be lovely.

Mixto is a great find and it’s in a not-too-crowded neighborhood. Opened by the same folks who brought Philly Tierra Colombiana, Mixto serves up Cuban, Colombian and pan-Latin cuisine to please everyone.

We had bruschetta on plantains, octopus and clam ceviche, gazpacho and two types of sangria (red and sparkling). Not only is the food delicious and served at the right temperature (hot food is hot, cold food is cold), the service is friendly and impeccable. It’s nice to get a complete dining experience and feel good about the entire thing. We probably sat fishing fruit out of the sangria pitcher long after we should have, yet our server was gracious and accommodating.

Bonus: great outdoor seating for lovely springtime weather!

Mixto is wonderful. BUT, despite the odd press it has received, there is no such thing as Midtown Village. You can call it Antique Row, or Washington Square West, or the Gayborhood, or any number of other things. But Midtown is a diner, not a neighborhood.

I dunno, these people might argue with you on that. http://www.midtownvillage.org/
