About 50 skeptics and believers alike crammed into the tiny GERM bookstore in Fishtown yesterday to watch a Powerpoint presentation and ask questions of representatives from PAMUFON (Pennsylvania Mutual UFO Network). The session, part of Philadelphia UFO Awareness Day, invited Philadelphia residents to come and file confidential sighting reports, join MUFON or pick the brains of the certified investigators.

The atmosphere was casual. Some browsed GERM’s paranormal and conspiracy titles while others shouted questions during the presentation. Wild theories ranging from the end of civilization as we know it in 2012 to battles raging between alien races kept the event in constant new directions. Many visitors took particular interest in the wave of recent UFO sightings in Bucks County, which PAMUFON investigated. PAMUFON State Director John Ventre entertained all these theories, while continuing to present the history of the UFO phenomenon in America, from Roswell to Project Blue Book.

Attendees were also invited to participate in GERM’s monthly UFO gathering on the second Thursday of every month. Organizers said the atmosphere at these events is similar to Sunday’s session, consisting mostly of casual group discussion and informal presentations.
