Philadelphia Book Company

By Kelly White
There’s something new to read in Fishtown other than the Fishtown Spirit and the Star. Last weekend, Philadelphia Book Company opened its doors to the community with a book sale. The massive warehouse of new and used books (remember those?) will draw you towards Frankford and Girard during the daytime for once. It’s easy to lose yourself in there, and it’s not quite organized just yet. Titles are all over the place, stacked on shelves in long, cavernous aisles. Most of them are below $3 and at least 50% off of the list price. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, simply holler. An employee is bound to hear the echo of your voice in the high-ceilinged room.
With all of the money you save, you can haul your load of classics and bestsellers to a nearby bar (take your pick, you’re at a midway point between the Barbary and Johnny Brenda’s) and support another PBC. That’s Philadelphia Beer Company to you and me. Are you gonna be that well-read person in the corner drinking a Walt Wit ale with your Walt Whit? How apropos.
