The Pizza Book

By Kelly White
Some of us can run pizza debates until our large buffalo chicken pies with extra cheese have entirely congealed. Our discourse may cover the inconsistencies of West Philadelphia slices, the finer points of North Philly, the overrated legendaries like Lorenzo’s and Tacconelli’s. Or we can save our garlic breath with The Pizza Book: An Illustrated Guide to Philadelphia’s Best and Worst Slices.
Gregory Pizzoli and Ansley Joe don’t actually have their doctorates in pizza, but they seems to have Philadelphia covered in this illustrated pizzeria guide. I’ve always noticed that UArts students seem to know pizza intimately, moreso than other Philadelphia universities, and I’m ready to accept the two MFA majors as the authority. Familiar spots like Best House and Slice are reviewed by factors such as freshness and atmosphere, along with the essentials, like beverage selection and bathroom quality.
After putting away slices, Pizzoli and Joe slapped each joint with an official rating, cute drawing and all. Pre-order the book at www.doctorpizzoli.blogspot.com.

Sorry, but Tacs is not overrated. No way, no how!

I never knew there were Philly pizza debates. All I ever heard were cheesesteak arguments.

Cathy is right, the little pizza place on Somerset is NOT overrated. And, for that matter, neither is Lorenzo’s…that’s a quality slice!
