Weekend Picks: Monday Edition

Sic Alps, Blues Control, Home Blitz

New day Siltbreeze Records showcase. Sic Alps play breezy drum and guitar west coast garage trash; Blues Control are the most rocking band playing who don’t have a drummer. Youtube either of them. 9pm, $10.

The Wrecking Ball
International House, 3701 Chestnut
Hopkinson Hall demolition party. Big dance party with “DJ Hi-Res” while rarities from the Secret Cinema collection are projected. There will be food and drink. 8pm, free with a cash bar.

Black Dice, War on Drugs
The Barbary, 951 Frankford
Providence via Brooklyn’s favorite alien sons and Philly’s strongest indie unit take turns landing their spaceships. 6:30pm, $10.

Family Campfire in the Pennypack
8600A Verree Road
Roast marshmallows and sing campfire songs. 7:30pm, free.

Fight Amp, The Claw, The Convocation, The Failed Alliance
The Khyber, 52 S 2nd
Khyber punx double header. Convocation is Tonie Joy from Born Against’s new band, Fight Amp are our local burners. England Belongs to Twee oi/britpop night is upstairs. 9pm, $8.

Cool Knights, Sunday Family Studio
Art Museum, 26th and Ben Franklin Parkway
The Cool Knights guided tour of the Museum’s medieval weaponry happens again this weekend alongside of the Family Studio art-making opportunity I posted last week. The former is at noon, the latter runs 10am-3pm. Both free.

Temple of Bon Matin, Big Nurse, Social Junk
Bobo’s on 9th, 9th below Washington
Huge punk/fun band Big Nurse team from Oakland’s US tour with recently relocated from nowhere reverb city/forest brutalism duo Social Junk (new record on NNF). With Philly via Florida’s wildest summer oldhead Ed Wilcox’s rotating free jazz/80s hair band, Temple of Bon Matin. Probably 10pm, probably $5.

Batman fights the Joker; opens Thursday at midnight. As per all summer blockbuster picks, this is best and most ridiculously served at the Riverview on Columbus Blvd.

The Kimmel Center, Broad and Locust
