The Art of Brick: Nathan Sawaya’s Lego Exhibit Hits Philadelphia

I love Legos. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time to actually build anything with them, due to having other responsibilities. So for now, I’ll just be living vicariously through Nathan Sawaya, a 35-year-old artist who creates astounding artwork solely from Lego bricks. His fantastic creations will be featured at the American Swedish Historical Museum starting this Saturday, August 23rd. And I can’t wait.

His work, which used over one million Lego pieces, will be on display at the museum in South Philly through Thanksgiving weekend. The exhibit is on tour through the United States and is the first exhibit of its kind to showcase Legos as an art medium exclusively. The artist will be making a special appearance on Saturday from 11 to 5. It’s his last stop on the East coast before he heads out west! So come say hi.

We’ll be publishing some more content on the exhibit here on Uwish, including an exclusive first look video of the exhibit and an interview with Nathan. Check back! The museum is open 10AM to 4PM, Tuesday through Friday, 10AM – 5PM Saturday and Sunday during the run of the exhibit. Tickets are only $8 for adults, $4 for children.

For more info on the museum and the event, visit the American Swedish Historical Museum’s official website.
