At 22nd and Christian, smack dab in what’s the latest frontier of Philadelphia’s vibrant urban fabric, sits Sidecar. Stepping inside, you find yourself in a cozy and dim, but clean and modern lounge – the kind you would expect to find in Center City or Old City. Much of the décor is lit-up by a series funky red lights and the patrons seem very hip/artistic, and make you feel as though you already are part of the indie-Philly scene. I have to admit, it’s a kinda contagious feeling as my girlfriend and I took in the ambience.
Their menu appeared to have plenty of familiar dishes, each with the kitchen’s own unique twist. At my best attempt to summarize their style, I find that Sidecar brilliantly takes light/fancy gourmet dishes that you’d expect around Rittenhouse Square and grills them up in a heavier Creole-style, all while still winning over pallets of all tastes. Their version of a Quesadillas which my girlfriend ordered; slow-cooked chicken, pepper jack cheddar, chipotle mayonnaise… they were remarkable. My Johnny’s Flying Fish Sandwich was not complete without fresh tilapia deep fried in a locally brewed beer batter and served up in a fresh Panini wrap.
With the exception of weekend brunches, Sidecar is not open until after 5pm. Because of its cozy size, if you do bring parties larger than four, you may want to call ahead, and there is still plenty of nearby on street parking that is also safe. So get out and enjoy the brief moments of feeling ahead of the curve.

Very chill spot, with my favorite veggie burgers in the city and a nice selection of draft beers. Love this place!
