Tomorrow: Battle of the Soft Pretzels!

People tend to forget that cheesesteaks aren’t the only food we’re famous for. Take the soft pretzel for instance. This perfect combination of flour and salt has been imitated worldwide, but like the sandwich, its true form can only be enjoyed in Philadelphia.

Granted, you can get it anywhere- at sporting events, hot dog carts, on the side of the road (not recommended) and yet, we’ve rarely asked where can you get the best. Is it because they are so accessible or because our taste buds don’t know the difference?

Now, if you have a favorite spot or have never tried one at all, free some time Friday to sample some of Philly’s best (or so they claim) at the 4th Annual “Battle of the Soft Pretzels” at the Independence Visitor Center.

From 12-2pm, Ben Franklin, you know Ralph; will host this savory battle as six salty competitors will look to you to convince our celebrity judges who shall claim the title of the city’s best doughy delight. Awards will be presented in the categories of: Best Traditional Soft Pretzel, Most Interesting Shape, Best Decorated Table and new this year, Best Pretzel Topping and Best (fastest) Pretzel Twister.

The event is free and open to the public!

Save the cheesesteak for later and fill up on some dough!
