Last Chance To See Amjad @ The Perelman Theater

Post by Kelly Bardon

The Kimmel Center concludes their fall dance series with the innovative Amjad. Created by Edouard Lock, the piece combines the classical influences of major Romantic ballets Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty with modern art and music. The set includes the sculptural work of Armand Vaillancourt and a film collaboration by Lock and Andre Turpin involving scenes of pulsing pearls and nature. It’s to be performed by nine dancers of the Montreal Company La La La Human Steps in their U.S. East Coast premiere this weekend at the Perelman Theater.

Through Lock’s choreography on David Bowie’s Sound and Vision tour and Frank Zappa’s Yellow Shark concert, he has attracted attention in the music world as well as the dance world. Amjad features a new score by composers Gavin Bryars and David Lang, a New Yorker best known for his work with Bang on a Can All-Stars.

Don’t miss this sexy, subversive ballet at the Perelman Theater. It opened on Thursday, November 6th, and runs for two more performances, tonight and tomorrow Saturday, November 8 at 7:30 pm.
