If you didn’t grow up as an Hasidic Jew in the Northeast and happen to be curious about it, Matthue Roth can fill you in at his book release party at Tritone on Saturday night. In his new book Losers, Roth dives into the awkward moments of teen life and how it feels to be a young, eccentric immigrant living in Philly. Set in and around Philadelphia, Losers follows the story of Jupiter, a geeky Russian immigrant who doesn’t quite fit, then gains sudden popularity. As he struggles to find a balance between Russian and Philadelphian culture, Jupiter ends up finding himself.

Matthue Roth has worked with MTV’s Rock the Vote and HBO’s Def Poetry Jam, as well as written several other books, including Never Mind the Goldbergs. Stop by and chat with him on Saturday–he’s a mensch!

In addition, Matthue will be joined by the band Prowler –an electro, booty, mish-mash funky band from Philly.
