Dinner @ Du Jour Cafe

Post by Mark Schoneveld
While Du Jour is already a rising star in the downtown lunch scene, and Kelly’s got brunch covered, Audrey and I were excited to check out their new dinner menu and its new 3-course prix fixe special that clocks in at a very reasonable $35 per person.
We started with an excellent full-bodied Grenache, which manager Chad Lobner described as one of his favorites. Our very cordial waitress suggested we order the soup – du jour, of course – a golden butternut squash with a dollop of apple fennel slaw. Audrey followed her lead, while I was intrigued by the cream of wild mushroom. I love the way they serve their soups here, with the garnish centered in an empty white plate and the soup poured at the table, fresh from a small warmer.
The menu offered wasabi crusted salmon and turkey dinner, Audrey and I both couldn’t help but order the filet medallions. We’re glad we did. The steak was tender and perfectly seasoned and placed on top of a bed of sauteed spinach, yukon gold mashed potatoes, bernaise and a red wine demi. It was fabulous.
Dessert was an unbeatable slice of rich chocolate chocolate cake and fantastic fresh fruit-garnished crème brûlée.
I’m excited to see more fantastic restaurants like this one popping up on the Avenue of the Arts. Next time you’re out to see a show, don’t miss a meal at this funky, modern spot.
