Crunchy on the Outside, Chewy on the Inside: Grasshopper Tacos, Frog Legs, & More @ Xochitl

Hmm… crunchy on the outside… chewy on the inside”¦

That’s what it felt the first time I tried grasshopper tacos, but overall it went down pretty easy. The secret? Don’t look at what’s inside before taking your first bite. That day, I thought: I’m French, we eat frog legs and snails. I can do this! So when I was offered to try grasshoppers”¦ well, I thought I owed to Mexican culture to give it a shot.

Now is your chance to forget about the fear factor and just do it: from March 17 to March 21, Xochitl, will celebrate Mexico’s first indigenous president, Benito Juarez, with a Pre-Hispanic Menu. Among the four-courses of this $45 prix-fixe menu you’ll be able to sample grasshopper, crayfish, veal brain and frog legs. To complement each course, Xochitl will also offer four innovative cocktails inspired by Chef Jimenez’s menu.

They say this menu might have been served in the 1800′s, at a presidential dinner hosted by Juarez”¦ Go ahead, take a bite of history, you won’t be disappointed.
