Spring Solo Series @ Abington Art Center

The Abington Art Center’s annual Solo Series gives four artists the opportunity to show off their works individually, but together. Take a trip over to visit this top-notch gallery that’s tucked away in Alvethorpe Manor in Jenkintown and you’ll find it’s well worth the trip.

The 2009 Solo Series runs from February 28 through March 29. In each of the Gallery’s stately rooms you’ll find an individual artist exhibit. Arden Bendler Browning exhibits her “Interstate Drawing” series, large works that use archival marker and caran d’ache crayon to create feelings of movement and space. The stay-at-home mom and artist is also a Philly resident as is another of the series artists, Shannon Donovan. A native Philadelphian, Donovan will exhibit her fanciful photographic vignettes during the series.

Tel-Aviv born Merav Ezer is a multidisciplinary artist who is now based in New York. Her art, which includes sculpture, video, installation and photography, confronts questions of displacement, technology and the spiritual element of nature. Finally, printmaker Serena Perrone will present her large-scale woodcuts and silverpoints. This St. Louis-born artist now lives in Philly, but exhibits both nationally and internationally.

Don’t miss out on seeing this quartet of talented artists. With free admission and a picturesque landscape, plus sculpture garden, a visit to Abington Art Center is the perfect outing that’s small on spending but rich in culture.

Wow. That’s a great picture. I want that house. It kind of looks like a modern interpretation of the witch’s house in Hansel and Gretel…

Many thanks to Jacqueline Rupp for the write-up and phillygrrl for the compliments; that’s my work in the posted photo. There’s a slight error in the posting: I create ceramic-based site-specific installations rather than photographs. The above image is of “Living Room,” my degree show at the Glasgow School of Art; the premise was the idea of a floral wallpaper pattern coming to life and taking over the room.
