The Battleship New Jersey: Back in Action

The Battleship New Jersey is back in operation. The historic ship on the Camden waterfront isn’t hitting the high seas, but welcoming public tours after a month-long hiatus.

Last week month, guided and self-guided tours for the public launched, giving you the chance to experience the largest and most decorated American battleship. The ship offers audio tours featuring harrowing accounts of revelry and disaster during the ship’s 50-year tenure. The ship is open Fridays through Mondays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to March 9th. Then, beginning March 13th, you can get your battleship fix seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It’s one of those things that anyone in the region has to do at least once, why not do it now? Take a ferry or the Ben Franklin Bridge and head south, next to the Susquehanna Bank Center.

The battleship was built at the Philadelphia Naval Yard and saw action during World War II and the Korean War before being lastly decommissioned in February 1991. It has been docked at the Camden Waterfront since October 2001. Public tours of the battleship were halted for the month of January in an effort to cut costs.

The ship also features regular events and offers group rates and discounts for school groups. See more at battleshipnewjersey.org. “Fish ‘n Ship” combo tickets for the battleship and the Adventure Aquarium are also available.
