Posters For the People @ the Adrienne Theater
These days, the New Deal and the government’s push to get the economy going again are on a lot of people’s minds.
So it’s fitting that 75-ish years later, InterAct Theater and Design for Social Impact are presenting some of the widely recognized government-sponsored art of the time in an exhibit titled Posters for the People.
With over 2,000 WPA posters, Posters for the People was first conceived as a book, released in 2008. Organizers of this exhibit then chose a diverse and eclectic collection focusing on labor and theater issues in the 30s and 40s. The exhibit opened this weekend and will run in conjunction with InterAct’s Labor of Love fundraiser on May 1.
It’s also a great excuse to check out InterAct’s current production, Jihad Jones & the Kalashinikov Babes, yet another socially relevant creation from the theater company.
