Rebecca Rothfus @ Pentimenti Gallery in Old City

Rebecca Rothfus; untitled (cranes); 2006; gouache, pencil, and paper on panel; 11″ x 14″
I am willing to forgive Rebecca Rothfus for being born in Pittsburgh. I hope you are too.
Because Pentimenti Gallery in Old City is hosting “In the Open,” an exhibition of her work now through May 30th. Rothfus will be on hand Friday, May 1st from 6th to discuss her art and, I can only assume, why she now cheers for the Eagles.
This exhibition of her paintings focuses on the development of landscape and architecture in the early 21st century, particularly in Pennsylvania. She concentrates on man-made parts notable for their simple and elegant design, but have a functional beauty, like a farmhouse or water tower. The exhibition features 14 paintings, which range from 12 x 6 inches to 20 x 16 inches in pencil, gouache, paper mounted on panel.
From her roots in Pittsburgh to art school and museums in Chicago and showings in places as disparate as Austin and Milwauke, we’re glad she came to her senses and got her work in our cradle of liberty.
