Something Intangible @ The Arden Theatre

The world premiere of Bruce Graham’s “Something Intangible” opens April 9th at the Arden in Old City. Graham is a celebrated playwright who calls South Philly home, and is something of a leader in Philly’s new play community, being dubbed “the original Philadelphia playwright.” The Arden has already produced two of Graham’s plays (“Coyote on a Fence” and “Dex and Julie Sittin’ in a Tree”), and now the theater’s Producing Artistic Director, Terrence J. Nolan, is stepping up to the directorial plate.

Set in Hollywood in the early 1940′s, the story centers around two brothers who run a movie studio. The brothers couldn’t be any more different “” Tony is a brilliant visionary longing to break out of the mundane and create a full-length animated film set to classical music (cue flashback to hours of watching “Fantasia” in elementary school music class), while Dale is a down to earth numbers man who must manage the studio, his family, and his feverish brother. The play is about many things, but “at its heart it’s about brotherhood. It’s the most real “Ëœbrothers story’ I’ve ever seen,” says assistant director Matt Rosenbaum.

Barrymore Award winners Scott Greer and Ian Merrill Peakes star as the dynamic brothers, and the show promises to be alliteratively heartwarming, humorous, and full of humanity. The Arden rarely disappoints, so make sure to pick up some tickets. With spring in the air, strolling around Old City and catching a world premiere by a star Philly playwright is the perfect way to spend an evening.
