Lovers & Madmen

Starbucks, eat your heart out. There’s a new coffee shop in town. Lovers & Madmen Coffee Lounge, located in University City on the corner of South 40th Street and Ludlow has everything you could possibly want in a local coffee shop. Free wireless? Check. Multiple floor outlets in convenient spots? Check. Organic scones, cinnamon knots and artisan quiches from Under the Oak Cafe? Check. Bright airy space perfect for reading, writing and enjoying? Absolutely. Pleasant, helpful staff? Yep.

Ever since Lovers & Madmen opened, I’ve been addicted to its great ambiance. Windows that open out onto the street are perfect for people-watching. Plus, the fact that it’s a part of PA Buy Fresh, Buy Local means you can enjoy their sandwiches , coffees and teas knowing your purchase supports local farmers and merchants. And it doesn’t hurt that Lovers & Madmen is located one block from the Market-Frankford Line.

So drive/walk/bike/SEPTA down to West Philadelphia and check out Lovers & Madmen. You won’t be disappointed.

Lovers & Madmen is open from 7AM to 7PM Mondays through Saturdays and from 8AM-6PM on Sunday.

Eh. I was disappointed, actually. I thought it was mediocre coffee, a tad on the expensive side, and not much selection. That was a couple months ago though.

I’m totally in, James! It’s a fun hang-out spot (my new fav). The staff are super nice.
