SoleFood Stimulus @ Loews Restaurant

Inside SoleFood
Recently, I walked into the SoleFood Restaurant, in the Loews Hotel at 12th and Market, and sampled their dining stimulus package, a $40 three-course priced dinner menu for two that includes a $10 gift card for a return visit, and uses fare from local farms.
With Garden State roots, there was no keeping me from selecting the roasted Jersey tomato soup with lemon cream and Blue Moon Farms basil as my first course. The hearty portion was thick, creamy and begged me to dip my sourdough roll. It was warm outside, but this soup, which was lighter in color than other tomato soups and not unlike a tasty vodka sauce, was worth the choice. My accompaniment had a chopped Caesar salad, which, if not for the delicious focaccia croutons, was quite standard.
Between us, we shared two of the four entrees offered in the Solefood Stimulus offer. She had the Lancaster chicken breast with Kennett Square white trumpet mushrooms, fava beans and pancetta in lemon thyme jus. She couldn’t quite finish her Pennsylvania poultry, but I can’t say I had such difficulty handling my slow roasted ocean trout with chive cucumber relish, basil puree and shallot crust. The deep pink fish had a fine, light breading and an inviting presentation.
The evening hour of six was waning, and we still had to march toward Broad Street for an evening show, so we quickly split the current seasonal dessert options: a chocolate cake and a Philly cream cheese cheesecake.
The chocolate cake was more memorable for its icing, but the cheesecake was light and portioned perfectly. Its creamy texture was complimented by my honey-laden Earl Grey tea and a fine farewell. We dashed out and made it to South Broad Street by curtain, fully satisfied.
The SoleFood Stimulus offer is valid seven day a week for dinner, 5:30 – 10 p.m. The price is exclusive of tax, gratuity and beverages. For reservations please call (215) 231-7300 or visit on-line at www.loewshotels.com.
