All-Female Sketch Festival @ the Shubin Theatre

Who needs Bravo TV? We’ve got Philly Improv Theater and their live-and-in-person version of the Real Housewives series, entitled The Real Housewives of Philadelphia. This sketch, which will be performed July 16th at 8PM, is the opening of PHIT’s first ever All-Female Improv and Sketch Festival (aptly named Bonerama). The “comedic docudrama” follows the burdensome tribulations of Philly housewives— you know, the hair-pulling, the backstabbing, the gossiping, the money-grubbing. Conceived by Amie Roe, the performance features Roe, Alexis Simpson, Meg Favreau, Liz Scott, Alli Soowal and Kristen Schier.

The goal of Bonerama is to offer the limelight to local women in comedy, who are often overshadowed by their male counterparts. But, as evidenced by the soaring careers of celebrities like Ellen DeGeneres and Tina Fey, you don’t need a Y chromosome to make a living out of making people laugh. Each show in the festival encourages the ladies to take risks and push themselves out of their comfort zone. As the sole longform improv theater in the Metro Philadelphia area, PHIT has the cred and bravado to carry off this one-of-a-kind event.

The festival runs July 16th through the 18th, with shows at 8PM and 10PM each night at The Shubin Theatre. Tickets for each show cost $10 each and are available online at phillyimprovtheater.com, where you can check out the performers’ bios and PHIT class schedules, or at 267-233-1556.
