Call for Artists: Art of the Gecko @ Academy of Natural Sciences

Ok, we know Geico’s British, occasionally bespectacled pint-sized pitchman has made you officially sick of geckos. But it doesn’t mean you should throw out the idea of learning about these fascinating reptiles. And what better way than by checking out an exhibit at the Academy of Natural Sciences, right alongside some great art?
The Academy’s new exhibit, “Geckosâ€â€Tails to Toepads,” features more than 75 live geckos representing 18 different species. Each gecko species is unique in coloring, size, and shape. And to promote this special exhibition, the Art of the Gecko show and sale plans to bring some phenomenal artists to this most unlikely gallery space.
For a $20 entry fee, artists will create their unique interpretation of the Gecko. Each artist is provided a 12–inch, pre-primed, resin gecko blank that can be reimagined any way the artists can imagine. These efforts will all be available for sale and artists will be on hand to show their pieces.
The exhibit itself will give you a chance to learn about geckos that don’t have cockney accents and ties to insurance companies. And hey, at least its not the Art of the Caveman.
You can learn more about the upcoming exhibit, as well as how to enter, here.
