Lovers & Madmen in University City

The next time you’re over in University City, be sure to check out the newest place here to get coffee, Lovers and Madmen, found at the corner of 40th and Ludlow (between Chestnut and Market).
Lovers and Madmen offers the same great selection of coffees you’ll find at any Starbucks, but in a much more cozy, quaint atmosphere. In renovating the historic building’s storefront, they kept many of the original details and finishes, which would make most people think they’d been there for years. The staff is friendly and helpful in making selections for those of you who aren’t familiar with the organic and locally owned products they offer. While you may have a challenge finding seating on some days at the outdoor tables, there’s usually a table inside if you’ll wait for a minute or two.
The best part for Penn students is that with a newer laptop with a strong WiFi card, you can even pick up Penn’s network here. For the rest of us, Lovers and Madmen offers their own connection as well.

Madmen is easily the best coffee shop in West Philadelphia, and arguably in the whole darn city. The coffee is excellent, the atmosphere is superb, the prices are lower than they should be, and even the vittles are awesome–try the quiche.
