Weavers Way Urban Farm Bike Ride Tomorrow

Two summers ago, I was up at Greensgrow (the urban farm in the Fishtown section of the city) doing a bit of grocery and plant shopping, when suddenly a group of 40+ people began to stream onto the grounds, all walking bikes (and looking rosy-cheeked from exercise and ready for a beverage). Curious, I asked around and learned that I had found myself in the middle of the Weaver’s Way Urban Farm Bike Ride.

This bike tour has become an annual tradition and is now in its fourth year. Last summer, more than 75 people participated and expectations are that the turnout will be even greater this time. Tomorrow’s ride starts out at 8:30 a.m. at the Weavers Way Co-op Farm in Mt. Airy. From there, bikers will visit farms in Mill Creek, Fairmount Park, the Spring Garden neighborhood, Kensington and finally Fishtown. After many miles riding and touring, the ride concludes with refreshments at the Philadelphia Brewing Company (just the thing after all that bicycling).

For a better idea of what to expect during the ride, check out some pictures from last year. To see a map of the ride, click here. If you’re interested in participating, drop Weavers Way board member and ride founder Chris Hill an email. He can be reached at chris AT chrishillmedia.com. All riders are asked to make a donation of $15 that will go to cover the cost of food and drinks, and lend some support the community activities of Weavers Way.
