Mama’s Vegetarian: Middle Eastern Fast Food At Its Best

Whether you’re looking for a quick lunch on the go or some cheap yet mighty delicious dinner, Mama’s Vegetarian promises to hit the spot for herbivores and carnivores alike. Known for dishing up some of the city’s best falafel sandwiches, it’s no surprise that this quaint kosher eatery in the heart of Center City is always bustling with hungry customers.
Featuring chickpea fritters that are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, Mama’s falafel sandwiches come on either white or wheat house-made pita, are slathered with creamy hummus and stuffed with shredded cabbage, cucumbers, diced tomatoes and optional (but not to miss!) fried eggplant. Those who like it hot can opt for the tangy and spicy house-made hot sauce. If your hunger calls for even more, add golden house-cut fries to your sandwich or order up a delicious vegetable latke on the side.
And with recession friendly prices ranging from under 4 bucks for the small falafel, $6 for the full size, $8 for a platter, you can even splurge and treat yourself to desert with a $2 baklava. Just don’t go on Friday past 3 p.m. or Saturday, as Mama’s is closed in observance of Shabbat.
