Festival Bar Keeps the Live Arts Party Going

Photos by M. Elizabeth Hershey

Want to hang out with the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe actors, dancers and musicians? Looking to combine some rad video art with your pint of lager? Interested in dancing away the weekend, but chilling late-night during the week? Then check out the Festival Bar, open exclusively during the Live Arts Festival and Philly Fringe.

Expect something a little different every night. During the weekend, DJs like Broadzilla, DJ Apt One, and Robotique will be spinning for the dance crowd. Weeknights have a chiller vibe, with video art taking center stage. VJs like Sarah Jacoby will be projecting old-skool MTV videos, found films and animations. You can check out Cult Classic Sundays, MTV Mondays, Documentary Tuesdays and Outlandish Art Wednesdays. VJ Yakov will be creating live video projections to accompany whatever the DJ is spinning that night.

Think hunting lodge meets Versailles, a place where taxidermy adorns the walls and velvet couches provide resting spots for tired dancing feet. Philadelphia artists will be presenting art installations, like Laureen Griffin’s photos from the Gender Portraiture Project and wall stencil titled, “Orientalist.” The design studio GD Loft will be installing pieces from their work, Lady Madonna Gallery Show, showcasing de-contextualized Madonna lyrics.

Just because the curtain comes down on the shows each night doesn’t mean Live Arts is over. Festival Bar keeps the Live Arts/Fringe spirit going into the wee hours of the morning. Doors open at 9PM on weekdays, 10PM on weekends. 21+, no cover.
