Festival Preview: Midtown Village Fall Festival This Saturday

Midtown Village Poster

Okay Center City dwellers, this one’s for you. The Midtown Village Fourth Annual Fall Festival is coming to 13th and Sansom this Saturday, October 3. Festivities occur whether the sun shines or the skies open up and begin at 12 noon and run straight through to 8 p.m. (area bars and restaurants will be delighted to accommodate you once the street fair winds down).

There will be plenty of food from the local restaurants, lots of terrific stuff for sale from area shops and a special Oktoberfest area where the beer will flow. Kids are welcome too, the Little Villagers area of the festival is just for them.

Philadelphia doesn’t have a Midtown. Midtown Village is an embarrassing ploy to sound like something New York. That stinks.

Just to set the record straight – The name Midtown Village has nothing to do with New York.
We needed a name to market the area businesses and let people know what was/is happening here.

Two names like all the other neighborhoods. Old City, Northern Liberties, etc…
Midtown because we are Geographically in the middle of the city and Village because the Greeks first settled in the area.
Prior to Midtown Village a more NYC style name was tried B3 (Blocks Below Broad). Like it or not Midtown Village is an area filled with unique shopping, great restaurants and it continues to grow with Independent owner operated merchants.

kudos james, your marketing is awesome because this neighborhood didn’t have a name before. oh wait, it did. midtown village is nonsense, this is and always will be the gayborhood. sheesh, embrace it.

Sheesh is right, effyoujames. Why such a sarcasm- and expletive-laced comment? The point of marketing efforts is to spotlight things we’re proud of. I’m just glad the light is being shone on Philadelphia neighborhoods, shops, restaurants and citizens, regardless of their silly labels. Feel the love, young effyoujames.

And for the record, they are two geographically distinct neighborhoods (Midtown Village=Market to Spruce, Broad to 11th St.; Gayborhood=Walnut to Pine, Juniper to 11 St.) that overlap. It’s merely a case of a geographic Venn Diagram. Do you think the Italian Market gets up in arms when it’s referred to as South Philly?
