GreenFest Philly 2009: The City’s Greenest Block Party

Photography by Jen Bendik

The Delaware Valley’s largest sustainable living event returns to the City of Brotherly Love for a fourth year on Sunday, September 13th from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. GreenFest Philly is expected to draw a crowd of over 25,000 and will feature some 200 local and national green businesses and environmental organizations, solar cars, an eco-fashion show hosted by Miss Earth Pennsylvania, plus tons of delicious organic foods. The best part– it’s all FREE!

Produced by the Urban Green Partnership (UGP), this year’s GreenFest is all about FOOD. That’s right, not only will you get to nibble on loads of organic snacks and check out a food symposium, you’ll also learn about easy ways to buy organic and local foods, have a vegetarian or free-range diet, and why it’s so important to support our local farmers’ markets. Curious whether you’re eating properly? GreenFest is offering each attendee an opportunity to get a Nutritional Evaluation—just bring a list of everything you’ve eaten over a period of 3-7 days and a nutritionist will evaluate your eating habits with you! And while you’re at it, be sure to get tips on how to grow your own food—even if you’re living in a studio apartment downtown!

Of course, all the GreenFest favorites you’ve come to love over the years will be back, including Sun Salutations with Dhyana Yoga, an Eco-Poetry Slam, tons of kid’s activities, live music, a clothing swap, recycling and compost stations, and other eco-friendly fun. Did I mention there’ll be a bike valet?!

Come out. Be green. Party like there IS a tomorrow.
