Poe-sers @ the Philly Fringe Festival

Historical nerds have been battling for years about the proper resting place for macabre master Edgar Allan Poe. Since Eddie never really let an anchor drop anywhere, city historians and Poe scholars look to his letters, his works and his actions to defend their arguments. And though Poe wrote the majority of his popular works in Philly—the Tell Tale Heart, the Gold Bug, The Black Cat, The Masque of the Red Death, The Murders in the Rue Morgue—Poe’s remains still belong to Baltimore.
Regardless of Poe’s resting place, the city of Brotherly Love can still lay claim to Poe’s creative legacy. And performance art troupe Pink Hanger Presents intend to prove it at this year’s Fringe Festival.
Their newest piece, Poe-sers follows a girl whose fragile life is held together by the poems, themes and characters of Edgar Allan Poe. Created in 2005 by Susan DiPronio, Pink Hanger Presents creates performance art, film, stage plays and other forms of expression to show the experiences of the modern woman.
Poe-sers joins the bill at this year’s Fringe Festival. The annual event has become a staple of the Philadelphia artistic community. Along with the many troups, artists, performers and producers that come out of the woodwork this time of year, the Fringe carries on an artistic tradition that began with writers like Poe and continues today. Check out info on Poe-sers and the many other Fringe performances at the Fringe Festival’s official website.
