Jolly’s Returns as the Dueling Piano Bar, Opens Today

Jolly's Dueling Piano Bar opens today at 3 p.m. (photos courtesy of Jolly's)
For nearly a decade, Jolly Weldon has been the king of the Philadelphia piano bar. He first brought the concept to Center City in 2003 with the RedHead Piano Lounge (which was adjacent to his Jolly’s American Bar, on the ground floor of the Latham Hotel). Today, he opens Jolly’s Dueling Piano Bar at 2006 Chestnut Street, with a swanky Mad Men-inspired interior and two dueling baby grand pianos.
A piano bar is nothing without musicians and Jolly’s has two long-time Philadelphia talents tickling the ivories. Anthony “Tony T” DeCarolis and “Wildman Joe” Marchetti have been playing together since 1991 and bring an extensive repertoire with them (by all accounts, they know more than 2,000 songs).
This new venue seats 125, offers a full bar (including a number of specialty cocktails inspired by New Orleans – the home of the piano bar concept) and sports a menu of small plates, developed by Chef Brendan Smith. Jolly’s opens at 3 p.m. today and the music starts promptly at 6 p.m., in celebration of their grand opening. Going forward, they’ll be open Tuesday through Saturday starting at 5 p.m. Music starts at 8 p.m. and goes straight through to closing at 2 a.m. (the kitchen stops serving at midnight).
We’re certain that Jolly’s is quickly going to regain its position as a Center City favorite!

Dueling pianos is a long-standing tradition. Mozart composed for two pianos, but few duets are heard today. Glad to hear of the opening of Philly’s new piano bar!
