La Cucina at the Market: Yes, You Can Cook!
As the Chinese proverb goes, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll eat for a lifetime.” La Cucina at the Market, a new space at the Reading Terminal Market specializing in cooking classes and demonstrations, has clearly taken this lesson to heart.
Overseen by cooking instructor Anna Maria Florio, La Cucina offers classes in all manners of cuisine such that culinary morons, like myself, can emerge from the class with a few recipes up their sleeves, along with the kitchen confidence that had heretofore eluded them.
Taking advantage of her surroundings, Anna sources her ingredients from some of the Market’s 80+ vendors, making for a mini tasting tour of Reading Terminal.
She is an extraordinary instructor, that Anna, buzzing around the kitchen’s various stations, adding pinches of sugar here and there, gently providing support and sliding naturally into Italian (she’s fluent) when the mood strikes.
And not only will you be running around the kitchen preparing a meal (you may find yourself, as I did, caramelizing onions and creating homemade ravioli), your experience concludes with a delicious dinner — not to mention the satisfaction of making something so, so good, and the knowledge that you, too, will eat for a lifetime.
Upcoming classes include Indian Home Cooking (with guest instructor Dr. Pianki Dutta, MD, PhD), City’s Best Brunches from Sabrina’s (showcasing the tricks behind the legendary BYOB‘s trade) and Homemade Pasta.
For a full list of classes, visit La Cucina at the Market. Buon appetito!
