Theatre Exile Presents: Hunter Gatherers

hunter_gathers_posters

Theatre Exile is known for being a cutting-edge Philly theatre company, always challenging theatre-goers and never content to leave audiences happily floating along in the cultural currents. Their performances cut deep, examining the complexities of our ever-changing society. Every Theatre Exile play I’ve seen has been meticulously written, acted, and directed, with sharp production values perfectly suiting the incisive words and actions of its characters.

Continuing in this vein, Theatre Exile is set to open its 13th season with the Philadelphia premiere of Peter Sinn Nachtrieb’s Hunter Gatherers. The biting comedy is filled with razor-sharp language and multi-layered characters (picking up right where they ended last season, with a stellar production of Mamet’s American Buffalo. The plot centers around two married couples – successful urban professionals all – who are friends from way back in high school. They gather for a yearly dinner to re-live the glory days; but now that age is creeping up on them, their cool, suave exteriors are starting to show some wear. Animal instincts lurk inside their sophisticated facades, and a veiled battle of virility ensues.

The cast and designers are all talented Philly-ites, and Hunter Gatherers is sure to get the ball rolling on a whole season of intense, sardonic, repartee-filled drama from Theatre Exile.
