Last Chance: Mural Arts’ Love Letter Tour

Love Letter Mural photography courtesy the Mural Arts Program
The Mural Arts Program recently unveiled Love Letter, a public art project consisting of 50 rooftop murals from 45th to 63rd Street, along the Market Street corridor… and you can tour them. However, there are only two more tours remaining for the month of November, leaving on Saturday, November 14th and 21st. So get on that!
Tours depart from Love Park (meet by the sculpture) for a ride on the El train, accompanied by a Mural Arts Program tour guide. That’s right, the El train. The murals are best viewed via the Market-Frankford elevated transit line, and “collectively express a love letter from a guy to a girl, from an artist to his hometown, and from local residents to their West Philadelphia neighborhood.”
Tours run from 10AM to 11:30AM, and are only $17, which includes your SEPTA train token. Register while you can, space is limited.

I did this tour last weekend and it was awesome. I would do it again, just to catch the murals that I might have missed (there are more than 50, I think). I love the sweet (but not sickly sweet) phrases and the different styles. Plus there are hidden gems (try to find the mural that gives a shout out to Michael Jackson).

My best pal and I did this this past weekend and it was AWESOME! YOU HAVE TO DO THIS! The guides are incredibly knowledgeable – they will even share secrets embedded in the murals. I’ll never tell….

I didn’t get to go on the tours, but gave myself my own tour. It was such a great thing to do! Here’s my take: http://vimeo.com/7883133
