Oliver! @ the Walnut Street Theatre

OLIVER! Sorry for shouting, but need I say more? The well-known Dickens tale turned Broadway musical will be in Philly for a short while. Don’t miss your chance!

Though I never read Oliver Twist, I still so excited that the show will be in town. I know the songs of Oliver!, like “Food Glorious Food” (which I sang in chorus in the third grade), “Consider Yourself,” “You’ve Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two,” “I’d Do Anything,” and “As Long As He Needs Me.”

This classic story of a young orphan boy will open at the Walnut Street Theatre’s main stage on November 10, 2009 and runs until January 10, 2010. The show takes you through the ups and downs of Oliver’s journey through London as the young optimist looks for a place to call home.

Since the beginning Oliver! has experienced staggering success. The first Broadway show garnered 10 Tony Award nominations, winning three (including Best Original Score for Lionel Bart). The 1968 movie won Best Picture and launched the careers of many young actors.

Not a stranger to the WST, director Mark Clemens is an acclaimed Barrymore Award winner and will undoubtedly generate a wonderful production again.

Tickets are on sale now by calling the box office or purchasing them online.
