New Year’s Eve Murder Mystery Party at Bistro Romano

bistro romano nyeStill no plans for tomorrow night? Maybe you’re searching for the exact right way to usher in the 2010. Well, for you dramatic types, I think that the New Year’s Eve Murder Mystery Party at Bistro Romano might just be the key!

Something is awry at the Boddy estate.  Stanley Boddy, world famous film director and producer, was found dead in his home on the evening of what was to be his greatest success Gone With the Wind II, Wham Bam Give A Damn.   While the cause of death is still unknown there are six unlikely suspects each with their own sordid past.

Have dinner, play the part, hunt for clues, and solve the crime.$59.95 a person (not including tax and tip) covers pre-dinner nibbles and entertainment in the piano bar, dinner and the performance. For the complete dinner menu and more information about the evening, click here.

Family Friendly New Year’s Eve Party @ North Bowl

Inside North Bowl, Photo by G. Widman for GPTMC

Northern Liberties’ North Bowl rings in the New Year with a special event for the whole family.

From 5pm to 8pm, bring the kids out for plenty of activities; face painting, live music (thanks to Alex & the Kaleidoscope band), and of course, bowling.

The party is only $10 and includes all the activities, a buffet, and a special New Year’s toast at 8pm. Bowling is also included, but limited due to availability. Here’s hoping North Bowl’s amazing tater tots are included in that buffet. I could eat $10 worth of those in a second. Mmm!

Becky Shaw @ the Wilma Theatre

becky-shaw

The Wilma Theater is ringing in 2010 with Becky Shaw, a critically acclaimed romantic comedy with a bite, which will run throughout the month of January.

It’s more of a comedy of errors, actually: Suzanna sets up her best friend Max on a blind date with Becky, a co-worker of Suzanna’s husband. A chain of catastrophes is inadvertently set in motion, with long-lasting effects. The play is cutting and witty, and so suspenseful that it feels like a psychological thriller.

Becky Shaw is hitting Philly with high expectations – it just finished up an off-Broadway run in New York, where The New York Times called it “ferociously funny.” It was also a Pulitzer Prize finalist, and both the director (Anne Kauffman) and the playwright (Gina Gionfriddo, of “Law & Order” fame) are Obie Award winners. Gionfriddo will even be popping by for a special conversation on January 10th.

Shows at The Wilma never disappoint, so make sure to catch “Becky Shaw” for some quality theatre and post-holiday laughs.
