What better way to celebrate the holidays than with sadism, black comedy, and plenty of blood?
Take a ride on the dark side with the 11th Hour Theatre Company and Theatre Horizon’s unique reiteration of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s classic Little Shop of Horrors at the Prince Museum Theater.
Director Megan Nicole O’Brien has erased the traditional Broadway “cartoonish” set, campy performances, and staging in favor of a stark realist ambiance. The artistic team sought to capture the true identities of the characters.
The plot still familiar. On Skid Row, flower shop clerk Seymour sets out to win the heart of the delectable Audrey in order to escape their pitiable lives in the ghetto. While browsing the wholesale flower district, Seymour encounters a strange plant in his path. He brings it back to the shop and christens it Audrey II.
Will the plant provide escape? Or will it its inhuman appetite tap in Seymour a gruesome bloodlust? Dun dun dun…
The show runs now through December 20th. A great opportunity to see some musical theater, right in Center City.
