The Lantern Theater Company Presents: Scapin
Fresh off a season-opening performance of the rarely shown Samuel Beckett’s Happy Days, Lantern Theater Company is taking a 180 degree turn with its second production of the season, Molière’s Scapin.
Where Happy Days featured only two actors and virtually no movement, this production – translated and adapted into vaudevillian style by Bill Irwin and Mark O’Donnell – promises a silly and more family-fun show filled with slapstick, live music and general on-stage mayhem. Did we mention puppets are involved?
The story follows the sly and deceptive servant, Scapin, as he attempts to trick his masters into providing the money needed for two young aristocrats to marry the low-class girls of their dreams. Scapin seems to have bitten off more than he can chew, however, resulting in raucous and unruly scenes of mischief right up until the final curtain call.
