This Saturday, December 12th, from 9am to noon, you can catch The Santa Run (not to be confused with the Running of the Santas) along the Delaware River.

Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, and a crew of elves will hop aboard the Jupiter, a historic 100+ year old tugboat docked down at Penn’s Landing. for a special holiday cruise. The Jupiter is getting outfitted with Christmas lights, a tree on the helm, and plenty of presents, part of a yearly tradition to bring joy to visiting merchant seafarers.

Every year, the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) hands out 3,000 gift bags to crews from all over the world, who are arriving in Philadelphia between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s a tradition that occurs worldwide, and the bags contain all sorts of goodies, from writing pads, to airmail envelopes, to knitted hats.

The Jupiter will be crewed by the SCI, Philadelphia’s Ship Preservation Guild, and the Independence Seaport Museum. Be sure to walk by the river, and wave to Santa and his gift giving crew!
