Closing Event for One Book, One Philadelphia

one book imageNext week, the eighth annual One Book, One Philadelphia event will be drawing to a close. This year’s selection was Marjane Satrapi’s The Complete Persepolis, a graphic novel that documents Satrapi’s childhood experiences in revolutionary Iran and later years, as a student living in Austria.

For those Philadelphians who have taken part in the city-wide read, the Free Library will be offering a concluding event on Wednesday, March 17th at 7:30 p.m. at the Central Library. This event is being modeled after the Golha, a series of radio programs initially launched in 1956, to help reintroduce Iranians to their artistic and cultural traditions.

The program will include a performance by The Black Pearl Chamber Orchestra, readings by author Homa Tavangar and poet Ursula Rucker and a special message from Satrapi, about her experiences as a One Book, One Philadelphia author. The event is free and will be held in the Montgomery Auditorium. Seating is limited, so arrival early.
