Following up from their acclaimed run of Skin & Bones: Tattoos in the Life of the American Sailor, the Independence Seaport Museum is launching a new exhibition entitled It Sprang From the River! Everyday Objects with Maritime Secrets.
The original and interactive exhibit features a number of maritime inventions and discoveries that have become a part of everyday life, and explains the connection between the seafaring and ‘landlubber’ worlds. From bell bottoms, to cell phones, to perfume, to the Slinky, you’ll learn how these objects left the seafaring culture and became staples on land.
It Sprang From the River! opens March 26th and runs through January 3rd, 2011. Keep your eye on the Independence Seaport Museum’s official website for events. No doubt there will be plenty of events scheduled around this new exhibit.
