Festival of Fountains at Longwood Gardens
Monday is Memorial Day, which means that many of us are looking forward to the holiday and an extended weekend. The city is going to be buzzing with festivals, street fairs and neighborhood barbecues. However, if you’re the type who likes to put some distance between you and the downtown core when you have a chance, consider paying a visit to Longwood Gardens over the weekend.
On Saturday, May 29th, the Gardens will be kicking off their summer season with their annual exhibition, Festival of Fountains. There is a fountain show every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening — typically at 9:15 p.m. — throughout the summer. Additionally, a special five-minute fountain shows run most days at noon, 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The Festival of Fountains runs through September 5 (Labor Day), so if you can’t make it this weekend, you’ll have other opportunities.
If fountains don’t float your boat, the Longwood staff have filled their many fountains with more than 100 types of waterlilies that bloom both day and night (depending on the variety). You can also stroll the Flower Garden Walk and take refuge from the heat in along the forest path.
