Sketch Burger

For a huge serving of local, amateur art or local, anything-but-amateur burgers, head over to Sketch, a vegan-friendly burger and shake shack located in the heart of Fishtown.

Sketch proclaims its spot on 413 Girard in outrageous bright greens and pinks. The bright colors spill into the interior, where neon green tables sit alongside bright blue and green walls. Calmed by cool jazz and classical music, the burger and shake shack is incredibly inviting.

Sketch reaches out to our non-carnivore friends offering vegan-friendly burgers, sandwiches, sauces and drinks. According to the burger shack’s owner, about 50% of those who visit the restaurant do not eat meat.

Sketch shows off the artistic talents of its customers and participation is definitely encouraged. Chalkboards hang over each booth, which are equipped with colored chalk and erasers. Paper and crayons are also provided for customers to share their own works of art, which are hung on the wall and range from stick figures to elaborate pictures of ninjas slaying giant cheeseburgers.

Guests aren’t the only ones creating works of art. Each burger is made fresh to order and formed by hand, which keeps it extra-juicy. Each patty is cooked on a flattop, allowing the fat to caramelize and create a delicious crust. Burgers are then stacked with fresh toppings like avocado or fried egg and homemade sauces. If burgers aren’t your thing, the place also offers a spicy, flavor-packed pulled pork sandwich and other daily specials like a humus sandwich or macaroni and cheese.

With a tagline like The Art of Comfort Food don’t be surprised if you feel a little sluggish after chowing down on these plump, juicy burgers and sandwiches. If you aren’t left in a food-induced coma after the main entree, Sketch also offers vegan-friendly milkshakes and homemade desserts that line a shelf inside the restaurant.

Open everyday from 11:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., the burger shack offers up a unique experience at a reasonable price. Guests can expect to spend $10-$15.
