Everyone associates Philly Beer Week with… well, beer. There are plenty of opportunities to meet brewmasters, learn about the history of your favorite draft, and sample delectable limited edition brews you can’t get anywhere else. However, a number of venues, from popular South Philly pubs to Old City boutiques, are hosting slightly different events. From shopping to arts and crafts, memorabilia swaps to glassblowing, I’ve detailed some of our favorite quirky events during Philly Beer Week.

Why not stop by the Pub on Passyunk East (aka the P.O.P.E.) for their Left Hand Second Hand Street Sale, on Saturday, June 5th. From 11am to 5pm, the P.O.P.E. and B2 Cafe are teaming up to sponsor a flea market and arts and crafts shows, on the corner of Passyunk and Dickinson.

Not into arts and crafts or flea markets? That’s okay, because the Pub on Passyunk East is also hosting a costume party, sponsored by Dark Horse. Dress up in a wild costume, and score prizes and discount beers on Saturday, June 5th, 9pm to 2am.

Yards Brewing Company is hosting a Breweriana event on Saturday, June 12th, inviting collectors to display, swap, and sell all kinds of historic brewery items. Expect vintage beer cans, bottle openers, taps, tin signs, you name it. And as you can imagine, there will be beers from Yards.

You’ll need a glass to drink all that beer in, you know. Hudson Beach Glass in Old City is offering up a Make Your Own Pint Glass workshop, starting tomorrow and running the entire length of Beer Week.

On Saturday, June 5th, Varga Bar begins their search for the 2011 pinup calendar. Stop by between 11:30am and 4pm for their Pinup block party for more information, and to play bar games for great prizes.

Why not visit a graveyard during Beer Week? No seriously, the Christ Church Burial Ground is hosting a 20 minute tour focusing on Philadelphia’s beer history, every weekday afternoon of Beer Week, starting at 3:30pm. Learn how Franklin, Hopkinson, and Rush were connected to the Philly beer scene. Tickets are only $2, or $10 for a group of 25.

The Irish Pol in Old City is hosting a Brews, Blue, and Tattoos event, for all you lovers of ink out there. Stop by and meet Bobby T. from Body Graphics, and win gift certificates for tattoo sessions! Takes place on Tuesday, June 8th, from 7pm to 9pm. You can also look forward to live blue music, and sampling Oskar Blues drafts.

PYT will be hosting a Golden Monkey Dance Party. Come shake it up with TommyUp, and make sure you check in on Foursquare. Word on the street is you’ll get a free draft by showing that you did. The dancing kicks off at 9pm, on Thursday, June 10th.

The Dock Street Brewery in West Philly invites you to come grill with them outside, during a music festival from 2pm to 7pm, on Sunday, June 13th. Stop by and listen to music from locals like Grandchildren, Chasing Arethusa, and more.
