Friday, September 3rd at Lincoln Financial Field, cross-city rivals Temple Owls and Villanova Wildcats go head to head in the 2nd Annual Mayor’s Cup.
The Mayor’s Cup provides a great chance to see a big-time game at the Linc at an affordable price — tickets begin at $18 — as both teams are returning from successful 2009 seasons.
Last year’s winners and reigning FCS (formerly Division 1-AA) champions, the Wildcats, enter this season ranked #1 in the nation. Meanwhile, the Temple Owls are hoping to build on last year’s historic season, which saw them finish with a record of 9-4 and compete in their first bowl game in 30 years.
The Owls also boast a Heisman Trophy candidate in sophomore running back Bernard Pierce, who is out to prove he’s among the elite players in college football.
It’s great to see this budding rivalry between two successful teams continue to develop in a city where local college football is often overlooked.
Tickets begin at $18 and are available here.
