Philadelphia Honey Festival Coming September 10-12
Honey is an incredible substance. It pairs perfectly with a slice of buttered toast, sweetens tea gorgeously and can even soothe a sore throat. Philadelphia beekeepers and scientists are so fond of the stuff that they’re throwing a three-day party. That’s right honey aficionados, mark your calendars for this fall’s first ever Philadelphia Honey Festival.
The festival will kick off with the placement of a historical marker at 106 S. Front Street, the former home of Lorenzo L. Langstroth, the man who invented the movable frame bee hive.
Events will continue throughout the weekend at the Wagner Free Institute of Science, Bartram’s Garden and The Wyck Association. Presentations include the opening of the DaVinci Art Alliance exhibition titled “What’s the Buzz,” at Bartram’s Gardens, beekeeping workshops at the historic Wyck House in Germantown and plenty of kid-friendly events at Wagner.
Throughout the Philadelphia Honey Festival, the organizers hope to also raise awareness about the importance of bees to the environment, the impact of local honey on our economy, and to benefits of urban beekeeping and gardening. All festival events are free. For more details about the festival, visit the Philadelphia Honey Festival website.
