Philadelphia Zoo Welcomes New Addition To Its Animal Family, Wants Your Help Naming The New Baby Giraffe

This is the first offspring for both Stella and the Zoo’s male giraffe Gus, 4. The newborn is the first giraffe born at the Philadelphia Zoo in 13 years and was delivered after a gestation period of approximately 15 months.
Mother and calf are doing well but the first few weeks of the calf’s life are the most critical and the Zoo’s animal and veterinary staff will be closely monitoring the pair. The calf was born six feet tall and will continue to grow very rapidly in the coming months.
The baby, a girl, is yet to be named. You can help the Zoo pick the baby’s name…
The name options for the baby, a female, are Abigail, Patricia and Shari. Go here to cast your vote. Voting results will be announced in September.

I love it when zoos let the community get involved like this. Giraffes are such great animals to see at the Zoo, and of course a baby giraffe is a special treat.
