Bizarre Beasts Past And Present Opens At The Academy Of Natural Sciences January 29

Bizarre Beasts Past and Present, new interactive exhibit opening Saturday, January 29th at the Academy of Natural Sciences, takes visitors back in time to experience some of the strangest animals that have ever lived.

Bizarre Beasts Past and Present, on view through April 24th, features lifelike models of prehistoric animals that evolved crazy-looking features in order to adapt to their environments. The realistic-looking, life-sized models of freaky fish, radical reptiles and bizarre birds are the work of Gary Staab, an illustrator and sculptor whose creations have been seen in museums, movies and on television.

Examples include the 7-foot-tall birdlike Dinotryma, the 13-foot-long Helicoprion shark that lived 250 million years ago sporting a buzz saw-like row of circular teeth, and a shovel-tooth elephant that lived 7 million years ago possessing a 5-foot-long skull.

The exhibition is free with museum admission.
