When beloved local confectioner Tastykake announced financial woes last month, Chef Matt Levin of Adsum rallied in support by creating Kandy Kake Sliders, based on one of Tastkake’s best-loved products.
The sliders feature house-ground brisket patties sandwiched between Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes, vanilla sponge cake lined with peanut butter and enrobed in creamy milk chocolate. Each slider is topped with American cheese and Sriracha-cherry jam. They’re sold in sets of two, for $11 per order.
This latest addition to Adum’s adventurous menu (Levin last made headlines with his now-infamous Four Loko dinner) spotlights the sweet snacks that Levin calls “absurdly delicious.” Check out this Eatocracy interview with Levin for more, similarly whimsical takes on modern American comfort food.
According to the Inquirer, Levin plans to donate $1 from each Kandy Kake Slider order to Tastykake.
It’s great to see the support for a local institution, coupled with the creativity and culinary prowess of one of Philadelphia’s rising star chefs.
