Philadelphia’s burgeoning restaurant scene shows no signs of slowing down. This summer, restaurateurs Steven Cook and Michael Solomonov (the pair behind Percy Street Barbecue, Zahav and Xochitl) will debut Federal Donuts, a mostly take-out, donuts-and-fried-chicken shop serving coffee, breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The pair is partnering with BODHi Coffee owners Thomas Henneman and Bob Logue, along with local food-and-drink expert Felicia D’Ambrosio, on the project.
With fresh-baked house-made cake donuts and Chef Solomonov’s crunchy, juicy half and whole fried chicken, Federal Donuts will dish out comfort food in both meal and snack portions.
As far as donut flavors, expect Plain, Glazed, Chocolate and creative seasonal specials, such as Key Lime with graham cracker streusel, Vanilla Cardamom Custard with pistachio, Brown Sugar-Grapefruit, and Chocolate Blood Orange Cream with orange blossom. And as for the chicken, inspired by Chef Solomonov’s favorite dish, Korean fried chicken, the shop will serve a Classic Crunchy version as well as versions glazed with Black Garlic and Date Molasses, or Mango, Pickle and Passion Fruit.
For punched-up comfort food provided by one of Philadelphia’s A-list chefs, you’ll want to add Federal Donuts to your list of must-try eateries.
